Scott Walker - Best of Both Worlds

From Scott Walker's second album Scott 2 (1968).

Scott was heavily influenced by Jacques Brel and Phil Spector's wall of sound in the early period of his solo career. Artists his music has influenced throughout the years include David Bowie, Brian Eno, Billy Mackenzie, Radiohead, David Sylvian, Douglas Pearce, Sting, Marc Almond, Jarvis Cocker, Alison Goldfrapp, The Divine Comedy and The Last Shadow Puppets.

Best of both worlds,
That's what you want
All your own way,
That's not my way
I won't share you,
I couldn't bear to
It's time for you to choose
Which one you'd rather loose
Could you love me,
And forget me
Are you sorry,
That you've met me?
What we've been through,
Means nothing to you

I can't satisfy you

You want best of both worlds
Make your fickle mind up
I won't stay while you enjoy
Best of both worlds

I have loved you
Since I found you
You belong here,
Just look around you
Keep your true love,
Or take your new love
You must choose between us,
You want best of both worlds
Make your fickle mind up
I won't stay while you enjoy
Best of both worlds

You've got to choose between us
You just can't have the two of us
Make your fickle mind up
I won't stay while you enjoy
Best of both worlds...

Hilde Hildebrand - Liebe ist ein Geheimnis

Hilde can be heard singing Liebe ist ein Geheimnis in "Die Englische Heirat" (1934).

Ill-fated actress Renate Müller, who can be seen dancing to it in the same film, also recorded a version of this tango.

edit: A kind soul uploaded the whole scene on youtube. Renate appears at 3:06.

Frank Munn - Lady Divine

Lady Divine is the theme song for 1929 silent film "The Divine Lady". Composed by Nat Shilkret and sung by tenor Frank Munn. There's not much information available on Frank Munn but I managed to find Frank's obituary on Time magazine online, which helps getting a better picture of who he was.

Visit the blog Vitaphone Varieties for plenty of information on old movie soundtracks.

Years of desire and wanting
Days that no pleasure knew
Love, dreams and fancy taunting
And then at last I found you

The rose of love soft caressing
Your lips, oh lady divine
My heart ? confessing
With hope is whispering today

Your eyes, your smile find me longing
To draw your breast to mine
?
And hear you saying you are my lady divine

The Carpenters - Superstar

baby baby baby baby, oh baby
The Carpenters sure were cheesy.

and here's an interesting cover by Sonic Youth :

long ago
and oh so far away
I fell in love with you
before the second show
your guitar
it sounds so sweet and clear
but you're not really there
it's just the radio

don't you remember you told me you loved me baby
you said you'd be coming back this way again baby
baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

loneliness, is such a sad affair
and I can hardly wait
to be with you again
what to say
to make you come again
come back to me again
and play your sad guitar

don't you remember you told me you loved me baby
you said you'd be coming back this way again baby
baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

don't you remember you told me you loved me baby
you said you'd be coming back this way again baby
baby baby baby baby oh baby
I love you, I really do

Dream City Film Club - If I Die, I Die

Here at cheesylovesongs, we do not wish to hurt sensitive souls. If you really don't like to see dead bunnies & blood, don't watch the video below.

Dream City Film Club was a very underrated band from the 90's - the frontman Michael J. Sheehy is, I believe, still recording. Here's a website if the band interests you : www.dreamcityfilmclub.com

(embedding disabled by youtube, click on the cover)

as I watch you sleeping
gently feel my way
into your dreams love
gently feel my way

you are so beautiful
I'd die to taste your kiss
I would give my (??) dear
for just one hour of bliss with you

they can tear me to pieces
they can break me in two
lover I don't care
as long as I'm with you
I'm not afraid, no
take my chances
and if I die I die

The Vaselines - Son Of a Gun

This song seems to be made for pillowfighting and general bouncing around.

I'm sure everyone knows the famous Nirvana cover- The Vaselines had a few other songs that were covered by Kurt Cobain's grunge gang. The Vaselines were Eugene Kelly & Frances McKee, two dirty-minded Scots who formed the band in 1986. They notably covered Divine's You think you're a man.

Swing swing up and down,
Turn turn turn around,
Round round round and about and over again.
Gun gun son of a gun,
You are the only one, And no one else can take my place.

The sun shines in the bedroom when you play,
And the raining always starts when you go away.

The Beach Boys - Wouldn't it be nice

Wouldn't it be nice, to live together in the kind of world where we belong?
I think that would kick ass. Seriously.

From Pet Sounds ( 1966 )

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong

You know it's gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together

Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through

Happy times together weve been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending
Wouldn't it be nice

Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true
Baby then there wouldnt be a single thing we couldnt do
We could be married
And then we'd be happy

Wouldn't it be nice

You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But let's talk about it
Wouldn't it be nice
